A Weekend Back in Vermont

So, the season at Tupper is under way. We have been on Island for 2 weeks and the camp is ready for the season. A new dock is scheduled this year as well as some other minor improvements. Anyone wishing to visit just needs to call ahead for availability. Eliza, Mike, and the kids are coming the last week in July and our friends Kathy and Jay are coming the first week in August.
We are in Vermont this weekend for a Bonsai Show and a new stove install in Jeff. I am hanging out here with nothing to do and decided to blog with my time. A visit with Lily and Asa was a bonus. The last time we saw Asa he was in a full cast from toe to hip socket on his right leg. What a relief to see him without the cast. Lily continues to read voraciously and is looking forward to theater camp next week.
"The farm at Browns Trace" is well under way. The slugs are enjoying their tender seedlings a little too much so we have them on a diet of Pabst Blue Ribbon instead. Followed by a dose of SLUGGO, an organic compound, they should be off to the Slug farm in the sky. The best part of the weekend was the early season salads. We had a lovely gourmet mix of tatsoi, mizuna, pac choy, rainbow chard, and turnip greens. The asian greens are really wonderful. Lily loves to make pesto out of anything green. Yesterday, she made pesto from oregano, lemon mint, a little basil, and just a few chives. She told me there is no recipe - you make it up as you go, just add olive oil and Parmesan cheese as needed. And, she says that the chives take the place of the garlic. I told her I like it with nuts, but she does not.
Well, the stove is done, and we are off to Tupper for the rest of the season. Last year we were there until October 1.
This Saturday is the shower for Liz in Dryden and I look forward to seeing everyone. And then again at Crista's Graduation Celebration in July.
Toodleloo for now.
